Oct. 15--A recall by High Quality Organics involving organic parsley that may be contaminated with salmonella has prompted recalls by producers and products, the latest being Red Monkey Foods.
On Wednesday, The Spice Hunter issued a recall for 29 spices.
Red Monkey is recalling seven products with parsley, including the Walmart Great Value brand.
According to an announcement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall was set in motion by High Quality Organics because a sample tested by one of its customers "was found to be potentially contaminated with salmonella.

There have been no illnesses reported but salmonella can cause a serious infection that can be fatal in young children, frail or elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.
“Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.”
The recalled spices were distributed in all 50 states.
